The Texas Strategic Plan, or The Strategic Plan for the Prevention of Obesity in Texas: 2005-2010, is a State document outlining a plan for preventing the ever-increasing rate of obesity in Texas. The Strategic Plan vision is that “All Texans have a healthy weight by being physically active and eating healthy.” Goals laid out in the Plan include: increasing awareness, promoting healthy lifestyles, promoting health policies, and evaluating health conditions. The Strategic Plan calls for public and private partners to work together to achieve the common goal of curtailing this dangerous trend in the Texas population. Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and The Texas Activity and Nutrition (TexAN) Coalition are responsible for tracking the implementation of the Strategic Plan.
